Central African born and raised in Europe, developed sensation UZI FREYJA released her debuting album Bhelize Don't Cry - accompanying a lead single and video "Don't Disturb Me" - that's her signature genre fusion of Hip-Hop, Electronic Beat and Punk music.
Born in Cameroon, Kelly Rose arrived in France when she was 12 years old. She was raised in Gospel and Soul Music culture, as well as embraced herself in Hip-Hop, but didn’t get involved with music as a singer, songwriter and performer until years later.
"I didn't really want to make music in the beginning it was really random day and I just went to people who were making music... I did something and my ex co-worker saw me and asked me if I want to join them and I was like yeah whatever...", she explained on France 24.
Ms. Rose's alter ego, "UZI FREYJA", is a combined reference to both her lyrical prowess and the famous Norwegian goddess of love, beauty, passion, desire, fertility, war, death, magic and gold.
“I find La Freya - she's a goddess and she's sexy and also she fight. I wanted something going to fight [with]... so I find the uzi because... all the time people tell me my flow is so fast...”
Uzi Freyja was originally a band name, that she help create in 2019 upon an open-mic session in the city of Nantes, when Kelly met French producer Christian "Stuntman5" Bagnalasta; and FotonDanger joined soon afterwards. The trio produced two EPs: Stand (2021) and Lunacy (2022). In the summer of 2023, the band was a feature at many of France’s biggest music festivals.
Kelly Rose has now become the sole face as UZI FREYJA; her solo emergence includes featuring on Makoto San’s “Temps volé”.
In perpetual reinvention of herself (starting with her ever-changing hair color), UZI’s larger-than-life personality is a striking feature of sensuality and confrontation, self-confidence and unapologetically feministic.
Thus the result is Bhelize Don't Cry – a12-track letter, to both her younger-self of what obstacles are to come, and to her current-self that such obstacles can be overcome. Highlighting songs and videos from this album include “Talk Sick”, “Pick a Side”, “Love Is Unfair”, “Medusa” (ft. Carbon Killer) and “Gyoza” (ft. Baby Volcano).
